Thomas Isaac/Levi Gillis Log House
Previously believed to have been constructed around 1780, the structure has long been known as the Thomas Isaac Log House, as Isaac is reported to have registered it in 1878. Recent research, however, indicates that the structure was more likely built sometime after 1851 by Levi Gillis, a mixed-race man who once owned the land the house was originally located on. The story and construction of this log house help provide insight into development along the Patapsco River Valley and into Howard County’s complex past.
