Patapsco Heritage Greenway Annual Meeting and Public Program

CATONSVILLE, MD—Patapsco Heritage Greenway’s (PHG’s) Annual Meeting is scheduled for September 25 at 6:30PM at The Barn, Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville. The Annual Meeting will be followed by a presentation by Michelle Wright, History Program Coordinator at CCBC. The Barn is located on CCBC’s campus at 800 South Rolling Road, Catonsville, MD 21228. The Event is free, but RSVPs are encouraged to info@patapsco.org.
PHG’s Annual Meeting is an opportunity for members to look back at the past year’s accomplishments and hear about the organization’s priorities and focus for the upcoming year. Patapsco Valley Heritage Area mini-grant recipients will be present to share their work. Members will also vote on new PHG Board Members.
PHG Executive Director Lindsey Baker explains, “This year’s annual meeting will be an opportunity to hear about the great year we’ve had, our plans for the upcoming year, and a chance to interact with our wonderful mini-grant recipients. We’ve complimented this annual meeting with a wonderful speaker who has done original research on the Patapsco Valley, specifically on the lives of people of color at the Hilton. We are looking forward to a great event and hope our members are able to attend and learn more about how our organization has worked for the Patapsco Valley this year.”
Immediately following the Annual Meeting will be a public presentation open to both members and the general public. Michelle Wright will speak on “Shades of Hilton: Exploring the Lives of Color of the Hilton Estate at CCBC”. Wright will focus on the research she has conducted on the lives of color that existed on the Hilton estate during the 18th and 19th centuries. The discussion will explore both free and enslaved people of African descent through Hilton’s several owners. Interested participants are invited to meet at Hilton Mansion @6:00 PM prior to the Annual Meeting for a guided tour.
Patapsco Heritage Greenway’s mission is to preserve, protect, interpret, and restore the environment, history, and culture of the Patapsco River Valley. PHG administers the Patapsco Valley Heritage Area and holds a variety of environmental and history based programs throughout the year.
