June 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Gary Memorial Church
Join PHG for our Fifth Annual Charles L. Wagandt II Memorial Lecture with speakers Lisa Jensen & Michelle Carras.

For our Fifth Annual Charles L. Wagandt II Memorial Lecture, Lisa Jensen and Michelle Carras will present a talk exploring the rich and layered history of Daniels — once a thriving water-powered cotton mill town whose story still echoes through the wooded river valley today. Trace nearly 200 years of industry, transportation, social change, and nature through historic images, maps, and stories of the families who lived and worked there. Follow the community’s evolution from establishment of rural Elysville into model mill town of Alberton and the transformation into Daniels, a hard-working community whose residents continued to gather for decades after their village fellowship ceased. The congregation of the last church is closing its doors atop Standfast Hill after 145 years. The talk reflects on the surviving landmarks and cultural heritage that continue to connect present-day visitors with the lives and memories of this remarkable Patapsco Valley community.
