October 2 Candidates Forum to focus on Preservation

The Ellicott City Partnership, Howard County Historical Society, Patapsco Heritage Greenway, and Preservation Howard County will host a Candidates Forum on Preservation on October 2, 2018 at 6:30PM. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the VFW Post 7472 located at 4225 VFW Lane, Ellicott City.

The forum will provide an important opportunity to hear each candidate’s perspective  on preservation. Positions on historic and ecological preservation issues facing Howard County including integrity of historic structures, scenic roads, interpretive opportunities, heritage tourism and educational efforts, and historic tax credits will be a part of the forum. Candidates for Howard County Executive, Howard County Council District 1, Maryland Senate District 9, and Maryland House of Delegates 9B will be in attendance.

“We are pleased to offer this opportunity to the community to listen to candidates running for office who can positively impact important issues pertaining to preservation, the Ellicott City Historic District, and many other critical issues” states Debra Slack Katz of the Ellicott City Partnership.

“We are pleased to join our partners in offering this opportunity for candidates to speak to some of the important historic preservation issues facing Howard County.  We hope it will be informative for both the voters in the audience and the candidates” states Fred Dorsey of Preservation Howard County.

Doors will open at 6:30pm and the forum will officially begin at 6:45pm.

Howard County Executive candidates will go first, followed by candidates for Howard County Council District 1, followed by candidates for Senate District 9 and concluding with candidates for House of Delegates District 9B. Only candidates will be seated and allowed to participate. All questions will be asked by the Moderator some of which will be mutually agreed upon from the collective effort of the hosting organizations, others will come from audience members who will be invited to submit questions.
